About The Workshop

Zine 101 + Risograph Workshop

May 2nd, 2026 // SATURDAY // 3-6P

@ FLUORO PRESS, 2414 Main Street

Join us for an intimate, hands-on introduction to DIY publishing, where you’ll learn to design, print, and assemble your own zine from start to finish. In this 3-hour session, participants will explore zine culture and Risograph printing, develop ideas through storyboarding, and produce a 2-colour, 8-page zine—complete with a 20-copy print run to take home or trade. With all materials provided and a small group setting, this workshop offers focused guidance and plenty of press time.

As a bonus, participants are invited to an optional day trip the week following the workshop. It’s a field trip exploring Vancouver’s DIY print scene, plus a digital goodie bag packed with templates, resources, and local zine directories to keep your practice rolling long after the ink dries.

Includes:

  • 3-hour hands-on workshop learning, creating, printing, and folding your own zine
  • Introduction to Risograph printing, including its history, mechanics, quirks, and role in zine culture
  • Zine inspiration and examples from around the world
  • Storyboarding exercise to plan the layout and content of your zine
  • All materials provided for creating your project
  • Create a 2-colour, 8-page zine using a tabloid (11” × 17”) sheet
  • Print run of 20 copies of your finished zine on the Risograph
  • Optional zine swap with other participants at the end of the workshop
  • Small class size (maximum 6 participants) for focused guidance and machine time

Bonus Goodie Bag Items (PDFs / digital downloads)

  • 2x versions of zine templates (fold-and-print guide)
  • Glossary of DIY Publishing (zine, chapbook, artist book terms)
  • Distribution cheat sheet (swap events, distro lists, venues)
  • Local zine + press directory (Vancouver & beyond published by VAG)
