If you’ve always been passionate about writing and storytelling, but would like to level-up with a published byline, join us and our friends at Loose Lips Magazine for Journalism 101! During this session, you will gain knowledge of the journalism industry, plus what makes for a well-balanced article.

In this workshop, Kristi Alexandra and Brittany Tiplady of Loose Lips Magazine will be teaching you the basic rules of journalism, and offering tips, tricks, and tools to get you prepared for your very first magazine or newspaper gig.

You’ll learn:

  • Basic reporting skills
  • How to structure a news story
  • How to properly quote and attribute sources
  • Interview tips & tricks
  • Fact checking
  • Basic ethics of journalism
  • Equipment you may need
  • Pitching and getting published

At the end of the session there will be a writing exercise to get you fully-prepared to pitch your ideas to an editor, and time for a Q&A. You’ll leave this workshop feeling empowered and confident to nail your next assignment.

About Loose Lips Magazine

Since 2015, Loose Lips Magazine has been an independently-funded online publication that is proud to cover local arts, culture, women’s health, and current events. Co-founded by two journalism school grads who went searching for their media niche but decided to create it instead.

Our mandate is to inform in the spirit of equity, fairness, and honesty, with a dedication to anti-racist reporting.

The content published on Loose Lips Magazine aims to spotlight women, non-binary people, and other underrepresented voices.

Loose Lips is grateful to operate on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
