About The Workshop

May 5th, 2024 (Sunday), 8a - 2p

House of Funk, 350 Esplanade E #101, North Vancouver, BC V7L 1A4

Come spend the day with Bad Academy and local brew legends House of Funk as we cook up a cauldron of delicious beer and learn all about how our favourite beverage is made, grain to glass!

It's almost beers-on-the-patio season, but have you ever learned about the process or even the history behind this delicious beverage? What goes into making a pint of beer? What's the deal with non-alcoholic beer? What makes a beer a lager vs an IPA? How do different flavours come about? What's it like being a woman in brewing?

We are excited to be offering a chance to see and experience first hand how beer is made, all from an expert woman in the industry. We'll be brewing up a special Bad Academy batch, and you'll all get to take home our final product once it's ready!

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Coffee! As a reward for getting your ass up on a Sunday! Kudos!
  • An intimate tour of the brewery - we only have capacity for 10 people!
  • Demonstration and instruction of beer brewing process
  • Lunch (HOF menu)
  • Pint of your choice as we chat over beers about the industry and culture of beer!
  • A Bad Academy sticker pack <3
  • Pick up your 4-pack of our creation at the launch party on June 21st (Friday) or whenever is convenient for you!

About The Instructor(s)

Ebony Jansen (she/her) is a full-time brewer at House of Funk brewing! She is an experienced fermenter and visual art creator. Her passions for fermented foods and communal discourse have taken her beyond food and beverage service and the gallery walls to a platform where she creates and cultivates change and community through activism and embodying radical empathy.

"As both a metaphor and a physical process, fermentation embodies bioavailability and accessibility, preservation and transformation, inter-species symbiosis and coevolution, biodiversity and futurity, harm reduction and care." - Lauren Fournier, fermenting feminism

About House of Funk Brewing:

Found with the aim of disrupting norms in the brewing industry, we foster an atmosphere of innovation and commitment to excellence. Our  batch system enables experimentation. At the heart of our brewing process lies a dedication to traditional methods, but each brew must undergo fermentation or conditioning in wood, or exposure to a variety of wild yeast, souring bacteria, and other unique microorganisms.
