About the Workshop
BIKE MAINTENANCE 101 // APRIL 29th @6p to 8p
LOCATION: Kickstand Community Bike Shop, 1187 Parker Street in Vancouver, BC
What are the actual names of the bike parts? How do you fix a flat tire? How do you decide to change a flat vs. get a new tube? How do you look less like a hot mess when you need to go to the nearest bike shop?
In this workshop we're partnering with local legends Kickstand Community Bike Shop to help you get to know your ride inside and out and, more importantly, how to fix a flat tire! You'll not only get hands-on training and to help you be better prepared when you hit the pavement, but you'll get all the tools you need too!
Included:
- Bike Maintenance Kit ($38 value) including a multitool, tire levers, and patch kit
- A Bad Sticker pack ($12)
- 2 hours of hands on instruction from our amazing mechanic Johanna ($200 value)
All totalling a $250 value!
About the Instructor and Shop
Kickstand Community Bike Shop is a completely volunteer run shop operating out of East Van. Their mission statement is as follows: Kickstand is a space for education and empowerment about cycling, cycle repair, and mechanics. With bikes and other wheeled modes of transportation as our ‘hub’, we will build a stable, diverse, robust, and resilient community by providing a low-barrier, safe, and inclusive workspace for anyone interested in learning about and repairing cycles. We will advocate for and promote sustainable transportation and safe, accessible cycling infrastructure in the Metro Vancouver area. We will actively reduce environmental impact and waste by extending the lives of older cycles and repairing and recycling used cycles and parts.
Our awesome workshop will be taught by Johanna who has been involved in the bike industry for almost 10 years as a mechanic, educator, and advocate. She is currently a staff mechanic at Sidesaddle Bikes as well as a board member for Our Community Bikes and a Kickstand volunteer.
