About The Workshop

January 26th, 2025 (Sunday) from 1-3p

House of Funk Brewing, 350 Esplanade E #101, North Vancouver, BC V7L 1A4

As we all brace for a new year and everything it might bring, coming together to be creative amongst friends seems like the right vibe to kick things off! Come join Vancouver Magazine, Bad Academy, and our endlessly talented instructor Ebony Jansen for an afternoon of learning and creating!

Vision Boarding 101 is all about a boundless burst of creativity while also setting intentions. Maybe you feel like things have been chaotic in your life, and you could use some centring? Maybe you're unsure of what you'd like to focus on for the next few months, and could use some guidance? Maybe you really just want to cut something... we feel you. Through this workshop you will hear about the wonderfully cathartic practice of vision boarding and collaging, why we feel compelled to set intentions and goals at the beginning of a new year, the process of creating a board, and, of course, an opportunity give it a try yourself!

There is no experience needed for this workshop and we provide all materials (but feel free to bring your own)!

Explore satirical and nonsensical art in a welcoming environment where diverse voices converge through collage. We draw inspiration from collage's rich history of societal impact. Let’s create art that not only reflects the absurdity of our world but also sparks conversation and inspires change! Think of it as a mood board for the future—crafting the 2025 you envision, one piece at a time. Spend your day with us at House of Funk Brewing Co while we sip and create.

Materials Needed

All materials are provided, but please bring anything you already have that you would like to include in your vision board (your own clippings, photos, magazines for yourself or to share, special paper or cutting tools, etc)

HOF has refreshments that will be offered to us for 10% off during the workshop :)

About The Instructor(s)

Ebony Jansen is a queer cis-female artist. She earned a BA in Art and Art History from Sheridan College and the University of Toronto Mississauga. She works primarily in print media, photography, and collage. Her artwork often focuses on finding humour, absurdity and playfulness in the simple moment of everyday life as inspired by Dadaist artists. Jansen has exhibited at the Gladstone Hotel’s Art Bar, Black Cat Artspace, the Blackwood Gallery among others. She has worked in publications at various institutions across the Greater Toronto Area, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, O’Born Contemporary, and the Living Arts Centre. She currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia and daylights as a brewer of craft beer at House of Funk Brewing Co. Most recently her work was exhibited at the Museum Strathroy-Cardoc in the international exhibition Collagism: A Survey of Contemporary Collage. She will be part of the first 2025 collective show at S.L.I.C.E gallery in January.

Refund Policy: Tickets are transferable, but unfortunately not refundable at The Bad Academy. We're a crazy small organization and operate on razor-thin margins, and as much as we'd like to account for life getting in the way, we have been burned too many times by no-shows, and last-minute refund requests etc. If you'd like to transfer your ticket to a friend, please email us at hello@thebadacademy.com with the name and email of the person taking your place, and we'll make sure to make the appropriate changes!
